Ruby Lodge
Mr. and Mrs. John Edwin Ruby, II built their country home in 1947. Today, the property currently consists of 66 acres of wooded land including a 7½ acre lake that is over 100 years old. The spring-fed lake was an original water source for Madisonville. This acreage was known as the “Springlake Wild Life Refuge” and is still home to many different kinds of wild life such as deer, fox, rabbit, squirrel, wild turkey, and many kinds of ducks and birds.

The Formal Dining Room is oval with one long-wall of glass and French-doors, which opens into a large screened-in porch that can extend the dining area in the warm months. The dining table and chairs are Hepplewhite, circa 1910; the Hipplewhite sideboard and server are both English, circa 1800. There is also a French, hand-painted wine cabinet, circa 1860.

The Foyer has an Italian marble floor of green and white. A large mirror originally from the previous Ruby mansion adorns the right side of the living room doorway and the beautiful circular freestanding stairway embellishes the other side of the doorway.

The Library is a cozy inside room that has access to three areas. The library is special to Joe because his father, James, “finished out” the room when it was built. James hand-rubbed many coats of varnish on the beautiful cherry wood that was milled at the Ruby Lumber Company in 1947. The original finish is still beautiful today. This room has a corner fireplace, a pocket door into the living room, and one wall of glass with French doors that opens into the glassed in porch

The Lakeside Common Room was originally one of two screened-in porches that flank the living room. The original floor consists of pigmented concrete squares in deep emerald green. Although TV watching is allowed here – more hours are spent bird watching in this glassed in room.

The formal Living Room has one entire wall of glass. There is a marble fireplace, a Chickering Baby Grand Piano, circa 1900, a Henredon chest from the Historic Natchez Collection, two round tables by Henredon and a secretary, all circa 1900.

The Screened in Porch - which is attached to the dining room - can be used for cocktails at sunset as well as for early morning breakfasts amid the sounds of nature. It is a very comfortable sitting area that overlooks the swimming pool and the lake.

The in-ground Swimming Pool is a mosaic of blue and white. Umbrella tables and chase lounge chairs surround the pool on the outside patio area.

The Breakfast Nook connects the kitchen and the dining room and overlooks the pool. The radiant floor heat and the gas log fireplace make this little room perfect for cool morning breakfasts.
